The People of Pncima

On Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte Islands) and from Prince Rupert to Campbell River, 35,000 people live on the shores of Pncima. Wherever they live, the people of Pncima know the smell of salt air and the power of the sea.
There are cities with deep ports supporting ocean industries, towns along the shores with vibrant fishing fleets and villages up long inlets where salmon and First Nations people have lived together for thousands of years. It is the waters of Pncima that connect these far flung communities and the people who both live and/or work on these waters.

Only a healthy ocean can support all of the activities within Pncima. The people who live and work there hold in-depth knowledge about the region, making them important contributors to an effective plan to manage and protect this ocean area. The people who live and work in Pncima are members of First Nations governments or they are stakeholders.  Everybody is involved.
